My brother in law Geri Redekop is an amazing man who has spent his life serving others as a after 38 years as a Pastor, 10 years of that as a Missionary in North East Brazil. He planned his retirement with my sister Rita and they thought they would be travelling a bit and enjoying time seeing the sights.
Geri has ridden in the MS Tour for the past 8 years raising funds with the MS Busters Team.
He has always been very active at the gym and loves gardening.
Two years ago Geri was diagnosed numerous cavernous malformations on the brain. He underwent several surgeries and June 1 of 2017 he had major surgery to remove one that had bleed on the brain.
During his recover, 3 months later, he began losing mobility and motor skills. On Dec 18th he was admitted to hospital with very little movement on the right side.
Paralysis started to happen on his leg and within 5 days he was completely paralyzed from the waist down. It was then discovered he had a cavernous malformation on his spine in the T10 area. He underwent surgery early January 2018. After spending several months in hospital and rehab he was able to come home on April 12, 2018. He is wheel chair bound .
He is now having to pay for his wheelchair gym therapy recommended at 3 hours a week $60.00 per visit.
Several adjustments have had to be made to their home for him to be able to remain in his own home at an expense that has been very difficult for them.
Ramp for home access $9000
Sidewalk expansion for accessibility $6000
Front door renovations $1700
Bathroom accessibility 3500.00
Back yard/door access $5500.00
Wheel chair $2200.00 above the allotted amount by Govt funds
Wheelchair gym therapy $60.00 3 x week recommended.
Donations of any size will be appreciated far more than we can express.
God Bless you as you consider this.
