Gerrit Butler - Legal Defense Fund

On July 5th, 2021 Detective Gerrit Butler was involved in an off-duty incident that required him to defend his family members. The Alaska State Troopers were notified responded and the investigation resulted in the arrest of Gerrit’s brother-in-law who was charged with four counts of domestic violence assault.

 

Detective Butler immediately went through an internal investigation and was cleared by FPD of any internal policy violations. Based on this and the AST investigation, Gerrit continued to work in his capacity as a Detective at FPD.

 

After 4 months, another investigation into the SAME incident was conducted by Alaska State Troopers who requested a warrant through the Office of Special Prosecutions. Gerrit was arrested on November 26th, 2021 and booked into FCC for felony assault charges. Gerrit was released from FCC after paying bail and being placed on ankle monitor November 27th, 2021.

 

Gerrit has been in good standing with the Fairbanks Police Department for six years. He is well known throughout the community and is looking for any support to help him and his family through this. This fundraiser is to assist Gerrit in paying for his legal fees as he has retained experienced counsel.
