Help Us Get a Ministry Car

Hi, my name is Marilyn and on behalf the Heavenly Physician Ministry team, I extend Christian greetings to you. We hope this letter finds you well. We are writing to ask your help in fundraising for a ministry car. Are you able to help us?

Remember the last time your car spoiled and you had to do life without it? Challenging, right? Maybe your challenge didn’t last for too long as you could borrow the other one in the garage. Now imagine doing full time ministry without a car. This is our current reality. And we give thanks to God for He helps us and regardless we will continue forward! Still, we pray for this gift...

A minimum of 3 times a year we embark on 1-2 months long mission trips. During these trips, we dedicate a week to church revival to prepare through prayer and a study of God’s word to be united in the work of soul-winning.

Later we proceed with health expos which are designed to be an entering wedge to the community. The health expo opens a way to continue treating the sick in their homes.

As we gain their confidence we then prayerfully seek ways to start studying the Bible with them. Additionally, our team conducts home to home surveys which helps us meet the people and learn their needs.

These contacts are then invited to attend the month-long evangelistic series where all our fundamental doctrines are presented to the listeners. Our message extends from the compound through loudspeakers that carry the message far.

The final weeks of our mission trip we dedicated to following up and strengthening the newly baptized. We also focus on making disciples and instructing the church members on how to continue the work after we leave.

In order to do this kind of work, contract cars must be arranged to take our team and all our equipment. Depending on the distance they can charge around 20,000 – 50,000 ETB ($160 - $400 USD) one way. Due to the nature and length of our work, we travel with mattresses for our team, blankets, stoves, generator for public evangelism, sound systems, speakers, up to 45 chairs to help with seating for our participants, medical equipment... all this apart from our regular luggage. All the equipment is stacked on top of the car.

The drivers charge us extra for the equipment. Many of these drivers are not mission minded, they only care about how much money they can make and often give a difficult time for our team and mistreat them. Additionally, we frequently need to travel to visit the churches and prepare the way for the work we are doing.

If we could have a mission car, our ministry would be greatly assisted and enabled to work more efficiently. And would help us with our ongoing plan to open an outpost center in the country-side. Due to high import taxes an inflation in Ethiopia, the prices have made it almost impossible to buy it ourselves. Prices for used cars range from $24,000 to $64,000 USD (3,000,000 - 8,000,000 ETB). Our Goal is 5,000,000 ETB. Villages often have rough, dirt roads which require a car that can handle those conditions. We are also considering a car which local mechanics would be familiar with and spare parts readily available. Considering these things, we believe that a Toyota land cruiser would suit our needs. But we are still praying about the specifics and asking God's guidance in the choice of car.

Our fundraising plan is the following, we have made a list of 21 friends and acquaintances of our ministry and have prayerfully divided our fundraising goal between these individuals. If they accept this challenge they have until the last week of February to complete their assigned portion. We also encourage our partners to reach out to their group of friends. For example, if they have been assigned to fund-raise $1,000 USD, they may look for 10 friends and ask them if they are able to contribute $100 USD each. In this way we carry the burden together.

We praise God that our team member, Degafe Ayana, has now successfully completed his driving test and is licensed to drive! Now we are ready for when God provides the car.

As a ministry we have been praying for this need for many years now. We believe God can provide what is needed for his work. Often, he choose to provide through people, that we may have this opportunity to work together for the salvation of souls.
