Help Amelia Get Facial Feminization Surgery
Donation protected
Amelia is asking for help paying for her Facial Feminization Surgery which is scheduled for June 13 of this year. This is a significant step in her transition and, to her, the most important procedure she will have to become herself.
Why?
The surgery will make small but meaningful changes to feminize her appearance which will not only help affirm her self-perception but will greatly improve her safety.
Deciding to go through with facial surgery is not an easy decision and is one Amelia has talked through with her wife, her doctor, and her therapist, and she spent a lot of time self-reflecting about it. She decided it was the right decision for a lot of reasons but, ultimately, it will help her to feel at home in her body.
Costs
This fundraiser will go toward helping her to pay for the surgery ($47,000) and accommodation and expenses in Seattle (~$3000).
Unfortunately, Alaska, like a lot of places, does not require that this surgery be covered by insurance so it needs to be paid for entirely by her.
(Did you know only 20 states and ZERO Canadian provinces cover or require insurance to pay for facial feminization? Wild.)
What's Being Done
After the surgery her hairline will be rounded, her browbone reduced, her philtrum (space between the nose and upper lip) will be reduced, her nose 'feminized,' and her adam's apple will be flattened. The plan is for her to still look like herself, just more feminine. More like she had gone through female puberty.
Amelia chose to have these procedures done with Dr. Parihk in Bellevue, WA. He's a double board-certified surgeon and she felt confident in his ability to safely make the conservative changes she's hoping for.
Thank You!
Amelia is planning to repay any generosity she receives to support her here when she is able for other trans and gender non-conforming people who need their healthcare paid for in the future. She knows there will continue to be many others who also lack the resources to access life-saving procedures like these and she hopes in the coming years, as she has the means, to repay the kindness and generosity of her friends and family.
Thank you so much for reading and donating to help with this major life change that will bring so much joy, relief, and euphoria into our lives.
