Get Amelia The PotBellyPig To The Specialist Vet

Donation protected
Amelia was removed from an abusive owner in November 2023. As far as we know, she had lived her whole life with a cruel man using her to breed from.
As a last resort, Amelia and her family were moved to a very small sanctuary (Spring's equine and farm sanctuary) that could offer a safe space for them.
On arrival, Amelia was aloof and not interested in the humans around her. It was noted that Amelia had some slight bloody discharge during her season. This soon cleared and the vet wasn't too concerned.
Amelia started to settle in after a few weeks and started to learn the human she now saw every day, was nice to talk to and give cuddles. Amelia is now a kind, sweet and loyal piggy that often comes over just for a cuddle and an ear scratch.
In December and January Amelia started to discharge pus. She was treated with antibiotics which immediately helped. Unfortunately when the antibiotic came to the end of its course, the discharge came back. She has had another two rounds of antibiotics, pain relief and steroids which intermittently helped the problem.
Unfortunately, pigs being a specialist animal the farm vet can no longer help.
The decision now hangs over Amelia's future, whether the funds can be raised to send her to Bristol University vets for treatment or due to lack of funding, Amelia's life will be ended just when it begins.
Until Amelia gets to the specialist vet practice, no one knows what is causing the issue. It is very rare but the first step would be diagnostic tests and an ultrasound at approximately £1000, next Amelia may need a CT scan at £1000. Depending on what is found will dictate what treatment can be offered at an additional cost. Amelia may need an operation which will be an additional cost taking the fee to 5k. We are desperately hoping the tests show a problem that doesn't involve survey, as reaching 5k is unlikely.
But reaching 2k would hugely help and means we can cover the cost of treatment for infection. I will keep everyone updated on what the scans find.
Amelia will be admitted Thursday 22nd February for tests. Please donate and keep everything crossed for a good outcome ❤️
All funds raised go straight to the vet fees.
If we can not raise the funds, Amelia will leave behind her daughter who she is inseparable from and her male companion, her protector, the father to her previous litters.

Thursday 22 February - Today we were able to get Amelia to the specialist for a scan. Unfortunately it has not been good news. Amelia is suffering from pyometra and is too old and to sick at this point for surgery to be an option. All we can do now, is to let her sleep in peace and be thankful she was removed from an abusive owner just in time to save her from a worse fate.

Thank you to the wonderful people that helped Amelia and Spring's Equine and Farm Sanctuary. Your help will never be forgotten ❤️
