Get Barbara the help she needs

Barbara is a 13 year old girl with special needs living in an impoverished neighborhood of Namwendwa Subcounty, Kamuli District in Eastern Uganda.

In our society, being special needs is still considered a curse. Barbara`s father denied her because of her condition and left her to her mother. When Barbara was five, her mother brought her to our village and left her with her maternal grandmother. She is in her late 60s and struggles with her own health. Barbara's legs are crippled and her hands are bent in. She cannot walk or stand and has to be lifted to the toilet. Now her grandmother struggles to do this as she ages and weakens. They both live in poverty.
