My name is Doug Elliott, and I am the "tech guy" at Southside. Cesar Jenkins is not just a co-worker but a close friend who deserves our support.
Support Cesar – Southside Elementary’s Beloved Custodian
For decades, Cesar has been the heart of Southside Elementary. Every student knows him, not just for his hard work but also for his sense of humor and no-nonsense attitude. For staff and volunteers, he’s always there to help, albeit with a smart remark or a knowing smile.
It was no small feat convincing Cesar to seek medical attention for the chest pain he had experienced for months. Officer Ward and his wife (Dr. Mindy Ward) were instrumental in this effort. I was in the room when his doctor delivered the news about surgery and it hit Cesar like a ton of bricks.
Now, Cesar is facing heart bypass surgery and a period of recovery. With the support of his doctors — and his famously stubborn spirit — we know he’ll be back on his feet soon. But during this time, we want to ensure he can focus solely on healing, not on the financial burden that medical bills and time away from work can bring.
Cesar is a proud man, and though he may grumble about the attention, we know he’ll be deeply touched by our community’s support. Every contribution, big or small, will make a difference.
Let’s get Cesar back to Southside, his frequent IHOP visits, the work that he does away from school, and his weekends at Desoto Speedway.
