Get Charlie George to the Edinburgh Fringe 2024

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Charlie George.

I'm a writer, performer, comedian & MC.

I'm also a queer, working class, autistic brown woman from Swindon. Who grew up transient homeless after leaving home and my mother's Jehovah's Witness faith as a teenager.

I have no family support & live alone in a rented one bed in Kent. (because I can't afford London rent).

I'd love your support for my debut stand up hour in Edinburgh, so I can progress my comedy career & employment opportunities and hopefully not have to sell my organs on the internet!

I love writing & making people laugh. I've been told I'm quite good at it. I've written for some people on the Telly & Radio that you might love: Charlie Brooker, Joe Lycett, Frankie Boyle, Mawaan Rizwan, Kiri Pritchard-McClean etc, you can see more about me & my work on my: Website

Now it's time to invest in myself & my own future -eek! (providing the sea levels don't rise) for when I am an old spinster lesbian in a period drama by the sea..

Yes! Just in time for the apocalypse I'm getting my first stand up hour together to go up to Edinburgh and am asking everyone I know and have ever worked with, if they can donate anything at all, to support the rising costs of accommodation & doing a show up there for a month. No amount is too small to help me defeat the mountain of debt and rise to this next challenge of an Edinburgh show!

I know it's hard times for everyone right now so if you can't or don't want to donate, you can also help by sharing this online.

People are always saying they want more diversity at the fringe, but it's really hard as a diverse performer to take the financial hit & risk of taking up a show. Hence why I'm asking to ease some of the pressures of rising accommodation & travel costs etc.

I'm not actually motivated by money. I'm motivated by love. The sounds of your laughter and frog memes. But unfortunately my landlord won't accept any of those as payment.

CAN YOU HELP ME!?

Every little bit you can donate goes a long way to the costs of elitist expensive Edinburgh "fringe" festival & the chance for me to showcase myself as a solo writer/performer and obtain more work opportunities. *Imagine a conference or a jobs fair but for clowns*

Your generous support helps me in the following ways:
Travel costs (trains now cost the same as a flight abroad)
Registration fees (to be in the brochure for the fringe is costly )
Accommodation costs for the month (this has skyrocketed)
Marketing/PR costs (So people actually know about & come to the show)
Director fees (So the show isn't back to front)
Access Support fees (I'm autistic & have a sensory processing disorder this is my support system)
Venue fees (hefty even for a wee room)
Tech fees (not as hefty but they deserve to be paid well!)
Agent fees (they will want to have a nice lunch every day ;))
And most importantly time to write the best jokes! (A lot of my work is actually unpaid or just enough to cover my rent & living expenses making it harder & harder to invest in myself & my own writing)

My writing and performance work aims to capture the voices of marginalized people and allow for serious subjects to be discussed in a fun and accessible way. Using wry humour and the universally relatable awkwardness that plagues us all.

My purpose is to platform the power of people we often view as 'freaks,' 'weirdos,' & 'outsiders.' Cos' I believe we all have a little freak inside of us!

The show's working title is: Burning Down the House!
It's about facing the consequences of my apocalyptic (Jehovah's Witness) upbringing. It is also about where we're at in the world right now and the larger feeling that our house is on fire, it's all very apocalyptic and we have to decide who and what is worth saving.

If you can donate anything you're most welcome to come to a Work In Progress show for free or be kept up to date with the show's progress or do a 1-to-1 with me punching up something you're working on - if that takes your fancy just hit me up I'm open to ideas to make this a mutual flourishing!?

We've come a long way baby through the hard times & the good I'd like to celebrate you baby, I'd like to praise you like I should - with ridiculous humour & laughing in the face of all that's come for us!

Ok thanks so much for reading this!

With Warmth, Deep Gratitude & Love

Peace!
