Get Daddy Outside
Donation protected
I want to update everyone on the fundraiser to Get Daddy Outside.
I am delighted to let you all know that a local builder donated his time and labour for free. As you can see we now have patio doors fitted.
On Dad's 80th birthday, he was able to feel fresh air on his face for the first time in 3 years.
We still need a ramp and special wheel chair to get him outside, the great thing is we did it.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the kindness and donations. This is life changing.
The fundraiser is still open to get the ramp and wheelchair. Xx
MASSIVE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS DONATED. WE ARW AT 20% OF OUR TARGET, HAVE HAD PATIO DOORS DONATED SO NEED TO RAISE THE FUNDS TO PAY BUILDERS.
Hello, I'm Donna, and I am fundraising for my parents. We want to adapt their home so dad can go outside after suffering a life changing stroke, which has left him paralysed. The doorways are too narrow so we want to install patio doors to get Daddy outside. We are also fundraising to get a wet room installed which we have been waiting for over 3 years.
The application for a wet room had been in place since 2019 due to both mum and dads reduced mobility.
In 2020 I arrived at my parents to find my Dad collapsed on the floor and unable to move. I called the ambulance and was told he needed to be brought in straight away. As I went upstairs to pack a bag with Mum for Dad, she collapsed and started to fit. The paramedics came upstairs and we couldn't get Mum stable so they both got taken into hospital at the same time and on the same day.
Dad had suffered a bleed on the brain and was rushed into Walton hospitalsnd underwent emergency brain surgery. He the had to learn to walk, eat, dress and talk etc.
Mum was admitted and found to have massive pulmonary embolisms and heart failure. She has Alzheimers dementia too. They spent until Easter 2021 in separate hospitals which was considerably difficult for them as they have been married for 50 years and together for 57 years. This was additionally hard as it occurred in thr height of covid measures so they were not allowed visitors or to see each other. The changes in their mobility and conditions meant we had to do a lot of renovation work and modifications on their home to ensure that they could return.
On 1st February 2022 Dad unfortunately had a massive stroke which has consequently left him completely paralysed on one side and unable to sit up and support himself. He has suffered subsequent pneumonia and sepsis and only left hospital in November 2022. Unfortunately the only way to get Dad out of the house is stretchered out at the moment so he hasn't been outside since his return home other than for medical appointments.
Dad is an outside person, having worked outside all of his life, gardening, fishing or tending to his allotment and chickens, bee keeping and watching the birds feeding whilst chatting to his friends. He used to spend every day at the allotment or in the garden with Mum. He misses this so much......
My sister and I have fought to keep them together in their own home.
We are fundraising to adapt their home,so that dad can go outside into the garden. We have already adapted the dining room into a hospital room with specialist bed, hoist, chair etc.
Now we would like to try and raise funds to get patio doors so he can go outside again.
Additionally mum needs extra care for showering etc, however, their shower cubicle is too small.
I'm hoping if you can spare some money that you can help get Daddy outside again.
