Why a book?
We live in a culture that has become increasingly “pornified;” where sex is selling everything, including household products; where playing in the 50 Shades of Grey is encouraging people to play with a fire that could destroy their home; where we stand up against sex trafficking and then turn around and traffic sex through our music, clothing and movies.
Amidst this culture that we live in, I want to give a realistic view of the life of someone who once allowed herself to be sold. This piece is not meant to leave readers in despair, but rather, I want you to see enough of the horror to appreciate the freedom that is possible with complete surrender.
My Hope
My hope is that every girl who comes through the Refuge For Women or who desires to leave a life of selling sex, can identify with this book enough to find the courage to heal. No woman is too far gone.
My other desire is to offer leaders, mentors and advocates a realistic picture of what a woman is coming in with when she arrives at a place like the Refuge For Women. My hope is that it would educate, and create understanding and compassion.
How you can help!
Here's where you come in. I've been at a stand still due to finances (#gradschool) and continue to get asked at every speaking event when my book is coming out. I need help to get it ready for publishing. By raising the funds above I would be able to bring my manuscript through the necessary editorial changes in order to get it ready for formatting, cover and yes finally, production.
Why now?
The Refuge For Women turned 10 this year. It is on my heart to be able to have this book ready and available at this year's annual gala. I wish for them to have this available at all nationwide events to raise support and awareness so they can continue to offer hope for another 10 years and beyond!
