I am Anna and I am Deaf. For the past year I have been making my living by being the CEO and head chef of our Food Truck - Def burger. We have been located in Richmond Hill, GA but we just signed a lease for a great location in St. Petersburg, Florida. The space used to be a restaurant years ago, but now it is mostly empty space with shining floors and a new roof. We will be depending on our food truck to start our business, but in order to open up the property as a restaurant, we need to install an exhaust hood.

These things are huge metal boxes - ours needs to be at least five feet wide and nine feet long - with powerful fans that vent the heat and smoke particles out of the kitchen. They also have fire suppression systems in them in case something goes wrong. In our case, the cost is about $10,000, which does not include the installation labor fees. We have a great landlord who wants our Deaf business to succeed and he has given us three months of building use without charge. This has a dollar value of more than $20,000 that we don't have to pay as we start up. We need cooking equipment and other supplies, etc. but it would help us move forward quickly if we could get the exhaust hood installed before Christmas.

Our new location is 1506 54th Avenue N, Suite 5, St. Petersburg, FL 33703. We hope to be operating our food truck there starting January 24th, if we can schedule our final inspection and get our Florida license by then.
