I'm Ethan, and my journey through adolescence was a battle against the odds. Growing up different in a small town meant enduring relentless bullying and feeling like I never quite fit in. But amidst the chaos, there was one place where I found solace: the skating rink. There, surrounded by the rhythm of wheels on the floor, I found peace and acceptance, a sanctuary where I could truly be myself.
As an adult, the struggle continued. Self-esteem issues, confidence crises, and the constant search for validation plagued me. Until I stumbled upon roller derby.
From the moment I laced up those skates, I knew I had found my calling. Roller derby wasn't just a sport; it was a lifeline, a community where my introverted assertiveness and unconventional appearance were celebrated rather than judged. For 15 years, roller derby has been my rock, pulling me back from the brink in my darkest moments and empowering me to become the best version of myself. Through the bruises and the victories, I've grown, not just physically, but emotionally. Roller derby taught me passion, determination, and resilience – qualities I never knew I possessed.
Now, I've been given the opportunity of a lifetime: to represent the USA at the 2024 World Roller Games in Rome. It's a dream I've dared to imagine but never thought possible. To skate alongside the world's best athletes, wearing the red, white, and blue, is an honor beyond words. But dreams, as they say, come with a price. The cost of travel, accommodation, and training adds up, and I'm reaching out for support from those who believe in me. Your contribution won't just fund a trip; it'll be an investment in a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and triumph over adversity.
So, to all the dreamers, the misfits, and the fighters out there, I carry your hopes and aspirations with me. Together, let's show the world that no obstacle is too great, no dream too far-fetched.
Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey.
Note: I plan to be a good steward and donate any funds leftover after the World Roller Games to charities protecting the rights of women and lgbtqia+ initiatives, as well as the support to protect our Mother Earth and her waters, especially the sharks within them. ❤️
