Get Genevieve out of Missouri

I am Genevieve, a 33 year old trans woman from St. Louis, Missouri. I've lived here as a trans woman for the last seven years, since I moved back home from a brief stint living homeless in the PNW.

Sadly, it's no longer safe for trans lives in Missouri. Currently my state leads the trend of anti-trans legislation at the state level with a total of 48 proposed bills to criminalize our safe existence. I would like to get out before the end of summer this year. With the next presidential election breathing down our necks I have decided now is the time to go, and with so many LGBTQ+ Missourians already moved away it appears that community resistance and self-defense is no longer a reliable option.

I have thought about which cities around the country are the safest for LGBTQ+ adults, and of the several protected by shield laws for trans refugees that I've looked at, Seattle seems to make the most sense for me, because I have previously lived in the area it will be the easiest for me to get re-acclimated to.

Following is a list of budget items that I need to move, in order of expense from least to greatest.

Rent (First & last month, security deposit) - $4,500

Safety net to keep afloat for 6 months (Groceries, transport, basics) - $3,000

New furnishings (Bed, kitchen, bath) - $1000

Flight ticket - $200

Setting up utilities - $200

GFM fees: $100

Last year the MO legislature was successful in outlawing trans kids in schools, sports, and healthcare. The Washington University Children's Hospital Transgender Clinic shut down; over 300 families lost access to gender affirming healthcare for their children. This year, the authoritarian right wing MO legislature is coming for trans adults. Forced single-AGAB bathrooms, religious exemption for trans healthcare providers, drag ban, ban on boycotts against anti-LGBTQ+ public entities, gender marker change ban, ban on LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations, banning reproductive health care coverage for transition services; these bills and more are being threatened in Jefferson City today.
