Justice for Ramsey Farrington (#JusticeforRamsey)

We're seeking justice for father, husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Ramsey Farrington! Over the years, we have all witnessed numerous men and women in this country, especially those who are Black and Brown, being brutalized by police without regard for their humanity. Unbelievably, Ramsey is now on this ever-growing list.
On Sunday, November 5, 2023, two Norfolk police officers arrived at the Farrington home and requested Ramsey to accompany them to their car for "paperwork". When he calmly refused, two officers entered his home in the presence of his wife and young children, and ultimately seven officers subjected him to choking, kicking, and tasering him twice into submission. It was only after Sunday's assault that Ramsey and his wife learned that the police were at their home over an allegation made by another family regarding an incident in which the Farrington's 10-year-old son was the victim of a BB gunshot to his forehead. Although Ramsey was arrested and released within hours, he suffered multiple injuries, with the most profound being traumatizing mental anguish. After Sunday's brutalization, Ramsey confided in friends and family that he had never been so terrified and it was the worst day of his life, but he'd persevere and keep fighting the good fight.
On November 8, 2023, in an attempt to report the injustice, Ramsey and his wife contacted the Norfolk Police Department’s Internal Affairs office. Shockingly, and dismissively, they were informed that the police had the right to enter the house without permission or a warrant and justified the actions of the officers. Distraught and hyperventilating, feeling unheard and in pain, Ramsey tragically took his life during that phone call, and died a short time later at Norfolk General Hospital. While he may not have died in police custody, he undeniably died at the hands of the Norfolk Police Department and the apparent Virginia law(s) that permit the violation of someone's 4th Amendment rights by allowing baseless entry into a home.
The brutal use of excessive force and the violation of Ramsey's civil rights were unwarranted and unjust. Ramsey is gone, but justice must prevail and we're here to continue fighting the good fight in his name!
