Get justice, Joanne’s broken spine

On Wednesday 21st October 2020, my best friend, her young son and myself went on a jeep safari in Antalya, turkey. Joanne was thrown into the air and landed on her bottom, causing the 10th spinal vertebrae to break. The private hospital treated her terribly when they realised her insurance would not cover the accident, so we would have to leave in an ambulance and go to the public hospital. We were told our passports would be taken and we would be taken to a Turkish jail, if we could not cover the £2k medical cost already incurred. The jeep safari company paid the £2k and made my friend (whilst lying with a broken back, in a hospital bed, high on drugs) sign to say this wasn’t there fault, she was very much under duress and pressure... she signed! The private hospital then proceeded to tell us that she couldn’t have an ambulance to the public hospital as they have to follow protocol and there wasn’t a doctor there to sign off! They then put her on the back seat off a taxi!! With a broken spine!!!! We then proceeded to the public hospital where the jeep safari company stood and argued with the doctor/nurse for 20plus minutes, whilst my friend lay there in agony, we were then told that she would not be allowed in that hospital, due to corona they just didn’t have the space. They told us to return to the hotel and just stay there... again we were thrown out of another hospital, Joanne was transported AGAIN in the back of a car WITH A SPINAL INJURY!! And zero pain medication. When we arrived back at the hotel the reception desk would not allow a room on the same floor and didn’t give/have a wheel chair to get her to the room! My best friend then had to basically be dragged to the room by 2 men and one with a chair behind, for when she needed a rest. The British embassy refused to help get Joanne home as she needed to be flown lying down, there response “we cannot justify the £15k on one person) we were helpless! All this time my friends 12year son had to see all of this happening to his mother, he’s emotionally traumatised! My strong strong friend, fought back all the pain and flew home wearing a back brace, were awaiting a referral to a spinal rehabilitation specialist in the uk. Joanne is not able to walk unaided, she can’t use the toilet unaided, she can’t even sit up and is currently staying with her sister. I feel like we need some help to bring whoever it is that should be held accountable, to justice!!! we need help with funding a solicitor/lawyer. Any help is better than nothing. Joanne now can’t work and financially support her son, she is a single parent and her recovery is going to be a very lengthy process. Her son now can’t get to school, she has no means to pay her bills and keep a roof over their heads. Please give whatever you can regardless how small. Thankyou
