GET 119 BACK ON TRACK!
The Historic Railworks is restoring Lehigh Valley Rail 119, a 1950 EMD SW1. 119 is important because is the very last SW1 to be built for a Class one Railroad. It only ever worked for the Lehigh Valley Railroad and then a steel mill in Ohio, where it currently resides. Due to circumstances outside of our control, we had to place our project on the back burner. Now the major issues have been cleared we can once again announce our plan to Get 119 Back On Track!
Our plan is to ship 119 back to a siding we have identified in eastern Pennsylvania that we have the ability use. Once in Pennsylvania, work will begin to stabilize and rehabilitate with volunteer labor. BUT before we even start that process we need to begin to prep 119 for transport back to the Keystone State! We are estimating we need approximately $5,000 to make this happen.
How are we using your money?
1. We are an entirely volunteer organization, no one in our group collects a paycheck. All money goes directly to expenses associated with restoration.
2. This particular campaign is for prepping 119 to go home. The fundraiser to transport 119 will go live once preparation is complete.
3. 119 will be traveling by rail to come home. We will be getting 119 interchange ready for the first time in 50 years.
4. Any parts needed for interchange will be purchased and installed with these funds.
5. Any movement of 119 within the current storage yard will be paid for with these funds, this includes lifting for truck swaps and possible switching.
6. Remaining funds may be used to defray the cost of lodging for our volunteers.
119 is the one of the least modified SW1s in existence. The only major change is that it was painted green at the steel mill. We plan on restoring it back to paint scheme as delivered. Questions or concerns? Check our website for more information
