Get Lit Words Ignite's 13th Annual Classic Slam

In the beginning were the words “Let there be light”, and with that, the world was born. At Get Lit, we believe words have the power to create new realities for us to be our brightest, most brilliant, most emboldened selves.

Get Lit – Words Ignite was founded in 2006 in Los Angeles by Diane Luby Lane to increase literacy, empower youth, and energize communities through poetry. Nearly 20 years later, Get Lit continues to ignite student engagement, literacy, and young voices around the globe using the power of spoken word, technology, and community.

Every year, our students look forward to competing in The Classic Slam, a two-day celebration of culture and youth empowerment that is one of the largest poetry slams in the world.

Unfortunately, two of our sponsors have dropped out at the last minute, and we need to raise $250,000 to provide this beloved platform for our students to compete, but more importantly, celebrate their love for language and their growth in our curriculum over the last year.

With your help, hundreds of young poets from schools throughout California will come together to perform Classic poems and original Spoken Word Response pieces, live, for a panel of esteemed judges.

Together, we can give these young poets a platform to let their voices be heard, to illuminate their communities, and to birth worlds. Your generous contribution empowers our students to continue to be agents for social change.
