Get Lyla the care she deserves.

Many of you will have seen that on Tuesday morning (18th July 23), a dog wandered up to my partner at a bus stop at 7am and tried to drink from his coffee cup. She was malnourished but playful and loved his attention. She was on her own and there was nobody else around on the busy road, so he brought her home so we could find her owners, but nobody has come forward for her. She isn't tagged or chipped, and she can't seem to keep food down. Initially we thought it was because she was stressed or had an upset stomach, but today it has become clear after trying different foods that there's something not quite right with her and we think that's why she may have been abandoned. We've taken her the vets who suspect she has megaesophagus, which is preventing food reaching her stomach and causing malnutrition, but she needs bloods and an x-ray to confirm diagnosis and rule out an obstruction which is going to cost us over £1000. She is only 30kg, and without diagnosis and effective treatment, she is essentially starving to death. There is a chance there's nothing that can be done and the kindest thing may be to put her to sleep, but she has stolen our hearts in the short time she has been with us, and we want to do everything we can to give this girl the life she deserves. She's the biggest softie who has loved all of our attention and cuddles, and despite the stereotypes of her breed, she doesn't seem to have an aggressive or reactive bone in her body. She follows us around like our little shadow and wanted nothing more than to play with the other dogs in the vets today.
We've named her Lyla, after her lilac colouring. If you are able to support us in funding her investigations and treatment, we would be truly grateful.

Update 21/07/23 - Lyla is having an Xray and bloods today. We will keep you informed of the results. Thank you so much for your ongoing support and caring messages x

Update 22/07/23 - It is not megaesophagus, but she does have something obstructing her esophagus and needs and endoscopy to remove it so that she can eat. She's bringing blood up when vomiting now, and so we need this done urgently. The vets have advised today that this will cost £4-6000. If it can't be removed endoscopically, we're looking at another £7-10000 on top of that.

Update 23/07/23 - She's had 22cm of metal rope removed from her intestines, and a 6x4 inch bone removed from her stomach. He was pretty confident she's going to recover well, but there's a 1/10 risk that the incisions to her bowel or stomach could break down, meaning more surgery.
The vets will give me updates twice a day, so I'll share them as they come.

Please share Lyla's story for us. No amount donated is too small to get her the care she desperately needs xx
