HAITO Karate: A Year of Growth, Challenges, and Progress

Just over a year ago, HAITO Karate took a major step forward by securing our dedicated space in Woodston. What started as an empty building full of potential has become a true home for our Kyokushin Karate community. This transformation wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our students, and their families, and the incredible support from the wider community.

Over the past year, we have made significant improvements to our Dojo:

✅ Training Mats – Both training areas now have mats! However, the main Dojo is not fully covered yet, and as our club continues to grow, we need to ensure that every inch of space can be used effectively.

✅ Wall Mirrors – A full wall of mirrors was installed to help students refine their techniques and improve their form.

✅ Storage & Organization – Shelving units were added in both the main and small Dojos for better equipment storage, as well as additional shelves in the changing room.

✅ Training Equipment – We have expanded our equipment collection to enhance our training sessions.

✅ Punching Bags – Two punching bags are now available for use, but we need strong brackets to install two more.

✅ Lounge Area – Improvements were made to the downstairs lounge, providing a comfortable space for parents while their children train.

✅ Tournaments & Events – We received generous donations of chairs and tables, which will be incredibly useful for hosting future tournaments and events.

✅ Ongoing Improvements – We are constantly making small touch-ups throughout the building, from installing small shelves for students’ bottles under the windows to adding soft chairs and sofas for visitors (and sometimes students, too!). These little details may not always be mentioned, but they all contribute to making the Dojo more comfortable and functional for everyone.

Despite all this progress, there is still work to be done. Our main training area needs more mats to ensure we can use the full space safely and effectively. Additional equipment and further improvements will help us continue offering high-quality training in a welcoming environment.
