Get Maverick Back on His Feet
Donation protected
If you've been lucky enough to meet Maverick, you'd know that although he takes a while to warm up to new people, once he knows you, you're part of the pack.
Best friend to Em & boys night companion to Jake. Whether Mav is chasing balls at the beach, being a "good" boy for treats, or cheekily sneaking into the kitchen bin when you're not looking, he brings a smile to anyone's face he comes across.
Unfortunately, on Saturday, Mav was involved in an accident where he chased a Magpie that he saw in the backyard, running from our kitchen VERY fast into the closed glass back door, injuring his spine & partially paralysing himself. He currently has little to no feeling in both of his front legs and swelling of the brain, with potential cranial & spinal injuries. We rushed him to Geelong Animal Emergency on Saturday night & he has now been transported to Advanced Vetcare in Kensington, Melbourne, for further treatment.
Currently, we don't know the full extent of the damage and are awaiting X-rays & CT scans. The VET told us that it's likely he will need spinal surgery (pending confirmation) & if the surgery is a success, there is a 70-80% chance he will regain feeling in his legs and be able to walk again.
We're absolutely devasted by the news that these impairments may have a lifelong/permanent effect on our little man & are gutted that something that seemed so small has had such a big effect on his life (and now ours).
If you've had any experience with emergency VETs, you'd know that it's a hefty bill. We appreciate those who have already reached out to send love & would be more than thankful for any assistance so that we can get our little man back to the beach & pack back together.
Kindest,
Emily, Jake, & Maverick
