Hi friends,
About 2 months ago, Jacob and I learned about a 1 year-old street kitty from NYC who was seriously injured (cause undetermined - the vet suspects either a car accident or a fall from a high rise); we knew that her left hind limb would need to be amputated and that her front left limb was badly fractured and would, ideally, heal correctly after 2 months in a splint.
Her amputation site healed up great and she recovered smoothly on that front! Unfortunately, her fractured leg has not been healing as we learned from an x-ray from 12/10. A consult with a board certified vet surgeon on 12/18 confirmed that she needs surgery for her leg to heal properly. The surgery would entail placing hardware (pins + plates) to stabilize the fracture and align it so it heals properly and maintains leg functionality. Without surgery, the bones in her leg will continue to “heal” at a crooked angle and she won’t be able to use that leg at all. With surgery, she should regain most if not all function in her leg and will be able to focus all her efforts on what she does best - being a stinking cutie!
Our Princess has really changed our lives in the few months we’ve known her. She is extremely sweet and social, very kind and cuddly, and overall an amazing companion - we feel so lucky to have her join the family. We scheduled her surgery for January 14th and are hoping that the finish line will be in sight once the procedure is done. We knew her journey to recovery would be challenging and we’ve done our best to keep her taken care of including weekly vet visits and signing her up for vet care plans and pet insurance, but unfortunately our pet insurance doesn’t cover pre existing conditions which is why we’ve come here to share our story and ask for help with paying for Princess’s procedure. The estimate from the vet for a Left Distal Radial Fracture Repair (possibly Pancarpal Arthrodesis) is $4800 to $6600. Since Princess was taken to the pet hospital by a Good Samaritan and our adoption wasn’t facilitated by a rescue, we’re responsible for raising the funds ourselves and aren’t able to get assistance from a rescue org. Because of this, we’re turning to our friends, family, and community for support.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting us on this journey - it really means the world to us.
Happy holidays with love,
Yousif, Jacob, and Princess Diana
