Get Rachael The Medical Help She Needs
* Daniel Hatherley is the beneficiary only as a holding method for the funds so they are not accessible until needed*
I am raising funds for my chronically ill girlfriend Rachael who is in critical need of life-changing surgery.
Rachael has had bowel complications her whole life (24 years) and was diagnosed with multiple rare conditions at the age of 14 years old. Unfortunately, since 2017, things have severely deteriorated. Her bowels are delayed meaning she is only able to go to the toilet once a month if she is lucky. This causes extreme pain, bloating, weight loss due to the inability to eat very much, fits, and passing out. Every day her bowels are flaring which mixed with her CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) PoTs (Postural Tachycardia Syndrome) and NEAD (Non-Epileptic Attack Disorder), makes for paralysis and no form of life other than being confined to her bed more often than not. Due to the poorly understood reality of these conditions, she also faces every single day with Anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, disordered eating, and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).
Unfortunately, we have recently had the news that the specialist she is seeing is retiring, meaning there is nobody in the South West that can care for her. Furthermore, without the aforementioned specialist prescribing and backing the medication that is keeping her alive, she will no longer be able to receive them from her GP.
It is essential for Rachael to have surgery ASAP to prevent hospital stays almost every month. She has been fighting to get this under the NHS for years, however, because she is young and due to extreme backlog in the NHS she isn't taken as seriously as she should be; despite all the medical evidence proving just how severe her condition is and her last hospital stay being almost fatal due to her bowel complications. Unfortunately, anything untreated and unmanaged means all of her conditions work against one another and make each other worse, which is why it is detrimental to her health and wellbeing should she not be able to seek urgent private care for both the ileostomy surgery and specialist management of her overall health.
We have set the goal for 25k for the below reasons:
Ileostomy surgery in London will be £23,436 before consultation fees.
Aftercare.
The private specialist consultation fees for her multiple conditions will be a consistent and large sum.
Traveling hundreds of miles and accommodation to visit her specialist as often as required. (We sadly haven't been able to source anyone who is both local and private).
I understand and fully appreciate how hard times are and have been this past year but we simply would not be asking if it wasn't life or death and we can only keep putting it off for so long. ANY amount you can contribute towards the fund will mean everything, giving Rachael a chance at a "normal" life.
Many thanks for taking the time to read about Rachael and please share as far as you can.
