Get Rathbone Moving Again
Rathbone provides individual support and group activities for young people and adults with learning disabilities in and around Lambeth. We encourage and support service users to become more independent; to make their own choices; to live a safe and healthy life; to make and maintain positive social relationships and to try new and interesting experiences.
Sadly in April 2021 Rathbone Youth Club's minibus was stolen. As a result of this frustrating incident we have been unable to provide vital transport provision for young people with disabilities to access much needed support and activity sessions.
Covid-19 has intensified the deprivation and social isolation faced by our young people. Ongoing intermittent school/youth service closures meant the key structures and routine in their lives were removed. Additional pressures have led to an increase of children and young people being exposed to family members with substance abuse and/or mental health problems and in some cases, domestic violence, and neglect.
In the past year, in consultations we have carried out with our young people, many have expressed feelings of anxiety, depression, anger and isolation. We have also seen an increase in risk-taking behaviour, substance misuse and self-harm. For those that have been able to attend our face to face session, we have noticed that many are battling with increased levels of social anxiety, with some showing a decline in social and communication skills.
Following such a difficult year filled with isolation and loneliness the theft of our minibus has exacerbated the impact of Covid-19 on our young people.
You can make a difference by donating today to LAMBETH ELFRIDA RATHBONE SOCIETY.
We are seeking to raise £20,000 towards the replacement of our stolen minibus. Your donations will enable us to provided transport to and from our youth club for young people with disabilities living in Lambeth. Providing vital access to activities that promote positive mental and physical wellbeing as well as essential support services to tackle isolation, loneliness and anxiety.
Please help us to get moving again!
