Get Tammy Back on Her TWO Feet

Hello all! Willow here (Tammy Koski's youngest daughter), with some unfortunate news.

On the evening of Friday, March 15, while out on a first date in downtown Vancouver, my mom slipped in mud while getting into a vehicle, rolled her ankle, and snapped her tibia and fibula.

Instead of calling an ambulance or taking my mom to the closest hospital (St. Paul's), her date thought it would be a good idea to instead take her to the hospital that was on the way home for him (Burnaby Hospital). The longer drive without the assistance of paramedics, resulted in heightened swelling and my mom developing compartment syndrome which is an incredibly painful condition where pressure in the muscles builds to dangerous levels. The severe pain and swelling delayed my mom's surgery by four days. Within that four days, she had to have the bones reset three times and struggled with excruciating pain, unable to move, and was barely able to eat or drink in case she needed to be rushed into surgery.

Luckily, she was able to have her surgery on Tuesday, March 19 where the bones in her leg were secured with plates and rods so they can heal properly. The surgery went well and she is now focusing on healing, managing her pain, and learning to navigate on crutches.

While she is still in the hospital, she is on track to be discharged next week. I am reaching out to ask for help with easing the financial burden for Tammy in the coming months as recovery, according to her surgeon, will likely take about a year. Until then, she will need help with transportation costs, groceries, assistive devices/care, bills, etc. Any help (even just sharing this GoFund me with others!) will go a long way in ensuring my mom's first and only priority is healing and getting that spring back into her step (but not into any more mud puddles!).
