Hi, I’m Alexa Aab, and sailing is my passion! There’s nothing like the feeling of being powered by nature, the wind, and the waves.

I’m 14 years old, and with the right support, I could be among the best in the world in the next decade.

My immediate goal is to qualify for the 2025 African Youth Sailing Championships (Optimist Class) and compete for a podium finish in the girls’ division.

To achieve this, I need funding for training, equipment, and travel. Competitive sailing at this level requires expert coaching, top-quality gear, and participation in key regattas—all of which come with significant costs.

More Than Just One Sailor – Kids for the Sea

This campaign is about more than just one event. It’s about inspiring young sailors and revitalizing youth sailing for future generations. My journey is part of a bigger vision—Kids for the Sea (KfS)—a movement to bring more kids into sailing, reconnecting them with the water, adventure, and life-changing experiences.

Many kids never get the chance to try sailing, and yet, so many unused boats are waiting for someone to bring them back to life. KfS aims to make sailing more accessible, providing mentorship, restored boats, and training programs.

A Personal Note

Sailing is in my blood. My father was a world championship sailor who also helped fund and support other young sailors on their journeys. He was also an accomplished entrepreneur, winning South Africa’s Entrepreneur of the Year award and sponsoring campaigns such as Ian Ainslie's 1992 J22 World Championship effort.

However, after a life-changing medical diagnosis, his path took a different turn. Defying the odds, he’s still here 25 years later, launching a new venture but unable to fully fund my competitive sailing career.

That’s why I’m reaching out to this community—to help me take this next step, not just for myself, but for the future of youth sailing.
