Get us out of the Garage

Hello and thanks for visiting our page!  We are a group of 3 high school students helping to raise funds for our church.  Our church, SS Cyril and Methodius is a small Orthodox Christian church in Chico, California.  The building we use for our church, sadly, has grown too small for our growing parish.  We hold our services in a small renovated garage of what used to be a single story house.  The church is small, not nearly big enough to allow seating for our many older parishioners.  The room is much too stuffy during the Sunday services and our older members fear of fainting during services.  That is why we, 3 students at Pleasant Valley High School, have chosen to take action.  We want to build a bigger, better church for our members.  However, we cannot do it alone.  We are shy, yet we have banded together to take action.  Now, we beg the public to do so too.  Even a few dollars would help our cause. Here’s a bit more information about our founder.

     Father Michael Rome, a Connecticut electrical engineer, converted to Christian Orthodoxy and was ordained to the Holy Priesthood in 1987.  He is founder of our little mission church.  Father Michael was a man of great faith, engaging, philosophical and a gentle soul.  He passed away 2 years ago while at St. Anthony Greek Orthodox Monastery, accompanied by his loving wife Matushka Rachel.  Because of his great faith and accomplishments, he was tonsured Schema Monk Athanasios, Nov. 6, 2014.  This small church has a solid foundation and faithful parishioners. Our spiritual leader is our young, energetic, and kind Father Ian Shipley. He was the one who motivated us to start this campaign, and he is a wonderful man.

     We students have done our part, but we cannot do it alone.  So please, even a small contribution will help.  Spread the word and help us with our church.  Together, we hope to build a church worthy of God’s name.  Thank you and God Bless.
