I'm a UK national stuck in Melbourne, Australia because of the COVID-19 pandemic. My GP has told me that I am at risk because I have a heart condition.
I've tried to get home but all flights from here are now canceled until June. And the ones that I could get on are from around £5000. I don't have that kind of money.
MY insurers have told me that they would only pay the excess money for an economy class flight.
My travel agent couldn't find flights and suggested I try to get repatriated.
I have spoken to the British Consulate who have told me that they are not repatriating anyone yet and to sign up to email alerts about travel advice. Which I have done.
My insurers have told me that they would only pay the excess money of an economy flight and that they wouldn't pay for any accommodation.
So, I need to stay put until such a time as I can apply for repatriation. Unfortunately, all my friends here who I would ordinarily stay with are either in self-isolation or quarantine I also don't want them to have added stress during the lockdown. Staying with strangers would be too stressful, staying with your own loved ones is going to be difficult during the lockdown.
I need to find somewhere to stay by myself where I feel safe and secure for at least a month, before the Australian lockdown. I'm looking at Air B&Bs near to friends in Melbourne.
I feel terrible asking for money and totally understand if you think that I am and if you don't want to contribute. These are difficult times and most people are worried about their own financial situations. I do understand that. But even if you can spare a couple of quid, I'd be so grateful.
I can't offer any rewards other than updates, eternal gratitude and love.
