The first thing I really want to get out of the way is that making a donation page was really a last resort for me.
My name is Amber, I'm 27 years old and I am in love with a wonderful woman named Maaike. We met on the internet and sadly, there's an ocean between us, I live in the USA and she lives in The Netherlands. Yes, long distance relationships are difficult enough with just a 45 minute drive, I have to fly 10+ hours each way and a plane ticket is usually $1,000+. We have met up in person 4 times in the span of our 4 and a half year relationship.
There are reasons I cannot pay for the ticket myself; I have no income and I cannot work due to mental illnesses. I have been trying for years to get on disability and have been denied multiple times.
Maaike has recently been approved for a place of her own in The Netherlands and I want to start my life with her. The apartment will be almost bare-bones and she will have to pay for all furnishings and appliances herself. I'm hoping that I can save up enough to pay for my flight and travel insurance so we won't have to wait a year or two before we can see each other again.
