Celebration is Ceremony

Her 64th birthday came and went while machines breathed for my mom. My kids were dedicated to manifesting their Nana’s recovery. My mom had constantly chided them about not manifesting enough, saying they could manifest any life they wanted if they just put it into practice more. So they decided that when she got better, we would have a “Nanafest” to celebrate her missed birthday celebration.

My mom went from being, well, my mom, to being intubated with a case of pneumonia, and gone within a week. I can’t begin to describe the void that is felt with her sudden death. She was the matriarch and has left my sister and me holding our babies tight, wishing we could have had one more conversation before she was sedated for that last week that she fought to get well.

Nora Jane Barker was a loving mother, but she was the world’s best Nana, with an incredibly close relationship with her grandchildren even as they entered their preteen/teenage years. My sister and I have managed to get most of the immediate costs covered but are still facing a financial deficit, and in the name of allowing our kids the chance to celebrate their Nana and accept that she’s left this physical world, we are determined to make “Nanafest” happen.

So, in place of a memorial, we are hosting a celebration of life for my mom on the 15th. Unfortunately, the funds needed for what has already been spent, and for the upcoming event, are unknown.
