Getting Arlo to Children's Hospital
Donation protected
This fundraiser was created on the behalf of Arlos' parents.
After months of preparation for a new baby on the way, mom (Liz Austin) and dad (Max Lesatz) got the news that Arlo's kidneys were not growing as expected. Towards the end of Liz's pregnancy, she spent many weeks at the hospital, with her medical team, monitoring Arlo's growth and kidneys. Finally, the day came to meet their little blessing! Arlo was delivered five weeks early on October, 1st 2020.
Shortly after birth, Alro was transported from the hospital in Neenah, WI to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa, WI. Here, is where the parents of Arlo would get a diagnosis with Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Failure. Five months later, Arlo has now gone through five different surgeries to help him prepare for peritoneal dialysis.
Since leaving the NICU in November, Arlo has been making the weekly trips to Children's and has even had a few longer stays due to complications. Mom, dad, and Arlo have to take the over 200-mile round-trip from their home in Appleton to Children's Hospital any time Arlo is needing medical attention.
For now, Arlo will continue being monitored as needed at Children's. Doctors are thinking that dialysis will need to be started soon, with daily treatments at home. When Arlo is around two and grows big enough, he can then be evaluated for a kidney transplant.
As you can imagine, taking the lengthy overnight stays can get expensive with travel expenses and food. The goal Ellie and I are trying to reach is for travel expenses. This doesn't include any of the bills they have and will acquire. Even with great insurance, there will always be a bill coming in the mail.
Those who love and care for Max and Liz often ask how they can help. If you are able to contribute to Arlos' fund, it would be greatly appreciated. We know it has been a crazy year and understand if you can't. Your generosity will support Max and Liz as they continue to care for Arlo.
...about us
For those that don't know me, I'm Maxwell's sister Ellie. I previously held the title of the "Most beloved Lesatz" until Arlo arrived. Now I proudly pass the baton to him and have taken on an even greater title: "Arlo's Auntie".
This year (& some!) has been a year of trials and tribulations for everyone. The love and support Max, Liz, & Arlo have received to date has been awe-inspiring, however, they have a long road ahead of them.
We'd like to do our part to further support them from afar. In hopes to help, we ask that you respect Max, Liz, & Arlo's privacy. Though they appreciate the outreaches, sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming as they're navigating this for the first time themselves.
Should you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to reach out directly to me.
Thank you for your kind words, thoughts, and generosity -- none of it goes unnoticed. It is both appreciated and welcomed. :)
I am Megan Anderson(daughter of Dan Anderson), one of the many cousins of Max Lesatz (son of Amy Anderson).
The story of Arlo has really hit home for me. When I was 15, I was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease. I had to do two different types of dialysis, one of them being peritoneal like Arlo.
After a year of dialysis, I was able to receive a live donor transplant from a wonderful woman named Jessica. The moment I was told about Arlo, I wondered how I could help Max, Liz, and this new remarkable baby!
While I was receiving dialysis, my whole family and friends rallied around me and held a silent auction to help raise funds to help pay for my medical bills. I know how much this relieved my parents.
As a result of that silent auction, I knew this was at least one thing I could do. So, I can only imagine the weight that will be lifted off of Max's and Liz's shoulders because of this fund.
As Ellie said, thank you to everyone who has reached out, asked how they can help, and has prayed for Arlo and his family.
If you would like to make a direct donation with a check, please contact me or Ellie.
