Getting cold for Andy's Man Club

I am excited to announce that I will be taking on a unique challenge to raise funds for Andy's Man Club, a men's mental health charity that provides free support groups across the UK. From Monday 10th April until Sunday the 16th April, I will be taking a 5+ minute ice bath in 0°C water every day.

Why am I doing this? Unfortunately, in December 2022 we lost a great friend, a loving brother, and a perfect son, David Hayward, who had been suffering from depression for some time. I strongly believe that if he felt more comfortable talking about his struggles, we may still have him with us today. Andy's Man Club provides a safe and supportive space for men to open up about their mental and physical health issues, and I want to do my part in supporting this incredible cause.

But why an ice bath? I have personally experienced the benefits of cold exposure in improving mood, increasing self-discipline, and keeping the mind strong. Studies have shown that exposure to cold temperatures can boost dopamine levels, which in turn can regulate mood and focus. By taking on this challenge, I hope to raise awareness about the positive impact that cold exposure can have on mental health.

While I acknowledge that my life has not been the most challenging, recent events have presented a range of obstacles that have been far from easy to navigate. It is with honesty that I admit that without my commitment exposing myself to the cold, these hurdles may have been even more overwhelming, regardless of their perceived magnitude.
