Getting Grandpa Gary home to Mississippi

Donation protected
As some of you may know, my grandpa Gary Felton underwent open heart surgery on June 3rd in Indianapolis. The function of the surgery was successful but he had a stroke that has impacted his brain stem, and other parts of his brain, either during the surgery or during recovery. My grandmother, Pat Felton, passed away this past March. Grandpa was back in Indianapolis pastoring the church we grew up in, up until his surgery and is still there now at Methodist Hospital.

Grandpa had a tracheostomy procedure this week and that was successful. It has allowed him to breathe on his own and to get off of the ventilator. He is showing some signs of improvement, which is great news! He is able to mouth words, blink to indicate understanding and move his toes a little bit. He has been watching TV and his favorite, Westerns.

My mom, Tammy,  and my Aunt Teresa have been with him at the hospital since this all of this has happened. They were all by grandmother's side since January when she found out she had stage IV cancer. The majority of my grandpa's family is in Mississippi and that is where he would like to be. This will allow my family to better care for him and to be there to support him as he recovers from this stroke. This will also allow my mom and aunt to go home to Mississippi to work and to take care of their own responsibilities while helping with their dad.

The case manager that is working with my grandpa has connected us with a company that is able to help transport him from Indianapolis to Mississippi, Grace on Wings. This will allow him to get home safely with the equipment and the medical staff needed to care for him in flight. Once back in Mississippi, he will be able to connect with a Neurologist, Vascular Neuro Surgeon and a primary care physician in the Jackson area. The cost of the transportation via Grace on Wings is $6,000.

Any monetary donations will be used to get grandpa home safely, and will be greatly appreciated. As always, your thoughts and prayers for his recovery are equally as important.

God Bless.

***Updates as of 6/14/19***

Thank you so very much to all of the donations so far. Grandpa is officially off of the ventilator and will be getting out of ICU today. The case manager has lined up the Air Ambulance but it needs to be paid for. He has also had more movement in his legs today.
