Getting JJ on his feet again

Hi, my name is Jessica, I have 2 sons, Julian 9 (Juju), and Jaylen 6 (JJ). They are my entire world. If you know a mother’s love then you know exactly how I love my boys. Juju is an introvert who is funny, smart, kind, observant, thoughtful and a loving boy. JJ is an extrovert, he’s funny, smart, witty, empathetic, cuddly and such a sweet boy. My life changed dramatically when JJ was born with FATCO Syndrome. He was born without fibula bones in both legs, a shortened right femur bone, and clubbed feet with 1 toe on each foot. He has 2 fingers on his right hand and 4 fingers on his left hand. He had 3 holes in his heart as well. He was in the NICU for 9 days and has been to countless specialists and therapists over the years. JJ was about 18 months old when he received a bilateral leg amputation. (He recently celebrated his 5th year Ampuversary/Anniversary of his amputation on July 3rd.) He has had 6 surgeries, his most recent one was Open Heart Surgery which was 5 days after his 6th birthday in November 2021. He soon after caught Covid but, thankfully, suffered no major symptoms or side effects. September 18, 2020 my daddy passed away. It was sudden and very traumatic for all of us but it hit JJ especially hard. My daddy and JJ were best buddies. He is still traumatized about his death and says he misses him everyday. Some days his spirits are low because of this. Over the course of the pandemic JJ has gained almost 70lbs. His weight gain has affected his ability to fit comfortably in his prosthetic legs. (I am currently working on his weight loss journey.) As of lately he has been wheelchair bound. Me, JJ's physical therapists and prosthetists have been working on making him mobile again. Our health insurance no longer covers wheelchairs and he is in dire need of a new one. His current wheelchair is no longer safe and he’s outgrown it. He also needs a walker so he can start walking again and lose the weight and become the independent walker he almost was before Covid hit. Through all of the trials and tribulations we’ve endured, JJ stays with a smile on his face and his arms extended for a hug. You can’t help but to fall in love with him. This is important to me because as a mom, I often feel defeated, overwhelmed and exhausted. Having this medical equipment will elevate so much stress. The money raised will be going towards JJ’s wheelchair, a walker and giving Juju and JJ a memorable summer. I know it hasn’t been easy for many of us and I appreciate everything! Thank you in advance.
