Getting Rebekah back on her feet
Donation protected
Dear friends and helpers
A few words and a big thank you from a very appreciative and overwhelmed Rebekah...
Many thanks
Kieran Connell, Simon Poulter and Darryl Georgiou
“It’s a cliche. But in this instance fitting. I really ‘don’t’ have the words to express my gratitude...for everyone who has reached out, through this unexpected campaign...and through ‘all’ of the support I have received...from family, friends, fellow creatives... and our brilliant (but very overstretched) NHS. I really ‘can’t’ thank you all enough...but I hope to at least show everyone how their generous donations are being used, as I fight myself back on the long road to full health and independence. I want in particular to thank YOU for all the the overwhelming testimonials, sharing of the page links and of course the amazing response to the crowd funding..."
“I first met Rebekah as co-director of We Went to War (2013), one of the best documentaries ever made about the Vietnam War. It was a collaboration with her mentor, the great British film-maker Mike Grigsby. Together, through long, slow, painstaking work, he and Rebekah committed the experiences of veterans to film, giving their subjects time to describe the lifelong effects of trauma; giving them room to breathe. Rebekah spoke movingly about these men in an interview with me for BBC Radio 3. The circumstances were difficult. Three weeks before the film was due to open in UK cinemas, Mike Grigsby died, suddenly and unexpectedly… Since then, Rebekah has pursued her own projects in film and audio, and shown a passionate commitment to Mike’s rich legacy. She shares the aim he always stated – “to give a voice to the voiceless.” Now she's enduring her own trauma, she requires our commitment to help her recover”

"My name is Kieran Connell . This is my campaign on behalf of the talented filmmaker & artist, Rebekah Tolley-Georgiou. I have known artist Darryl Georgiou - one half of artist duo Georgiou & Tolley - my whole life. I would appreciate your help for his better half and wife, in her long road to recovery after a terrible accident."
Dr Kieran Connell, historian & friend
Who:
On January 13th this year, our friend Rebekah Tolley-Georgiou, was involved in a terrible roadside accident, which left her with a severe leg injury - "a devastating injury" - according to the surgeon who operated on her. She was taken to the specialist Military Trauma and Orthopaedic unit (Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham) where she underwent 8 hours of surgery. A number of post operative complications meant that her stay has been a long and traumatic one, and the continued pain management/ongoing medication has been physically and mentally challenging.
Our Fundraising Goal/How you can help:
As part of her immediate and ongoing rehabilitation, Rebekah now needs to move into single level accommodation. She has already benefitted from the wonderful NHS and will receive some physiotherapy as part of her rehabilitation. But this is limited to 6 sessions and the severity of her injury will require much more. All of this will come at a cost. Rebekah’s injuries and ongoing rehabilitation have resulted in a loss of earnings from freelance work, creative fellowships and artist in residence projects (@GeorgiouTolley). Her husband Darryl and her wider family would therefore be very grateful for any financial contributions that anyone feels they can offer. Rebekah has a long path to recovery ahead, but is determined to recover her independence and is looking forward to realising creative projects in the future.
Many thanks for your support. #HelpRebekahsRehab

"My name is Simon Poulter and I worked with Rebekah back in 2003 when she attended an artist medialab (LabCulture) that I ran with PVA MediaLab. I have never done anything like a Go Fund Me before, but I would like to help her and know that there are other artists who will reach out. I know her situation is one of direct need. So, please help Rebekah."
