Save the Grand Lady

Tax deductible
While the economy has been seriously affected by the ongoing Pandemic issues, a pillar of Downtown Lake Wales’ fate is undergoing serious concerns. The Woman’s Club of Lake Wales cannot continue to share the love of their Historic roots if they can’t find funding to restore the Historic Grand Lady to her glory and relieve the ravages of time.

This beautiful historic building has been serving the local community since 1938. Through hosting countless benefits, providing an affordable gathering place, and offering free space for various organization’s meetings and charity events, this building offers not only a sense of community but a sense of nostalgia as well. At the GFWC Woman’s Club of Lake Wales Grand Lady, you stepped into what felt like a portrait of Old Florida’s past. Now, it feels a little different.

The once beautiful hardwood floors that offered a dance floor for thousands over the years, now is scuffed and scarred with the hard use of time. The ceiling that shows the design of past years has suffered from the moisture of storms and heat, and the windows that are original to the building are rusting at their sash and frames.

At risk here is more than a mere building. It is an irreplaceable piece of Polk County history, and the countless memories that were shared there.

Never before has the Woman’s Club of Lake Wales been in such dire need for financial help to save its beloved building. They have dedicated their club to the mission of serving the community with love, honor, commitment, friendship and faith, and now more than ever, they need us to join together so that they can continue their good work.

You can help continue the mission of this beloved Historic building in our community by becoming a GFWC Woman’s Club of Lake Wales sponsor, donating to the GOFUNDME page here, and by sharing the story of the Grand Lady.

About the GFWC Woman’s Club of Lake Wales:

In May of 1914, the Lake Wales Women’s Club was organized as the “Merry-Go-Round” Club. From the beginning, the group provided community service in the form of donations of a portion of the Club dues to the Orphan’s Home in Jacksonville, FL. In 1915 and 1916, the Club re-organized first as “The Mutual Aid Society” and then as the “Civic League”.  Down through the years more and more civic and community services have been added to become what we are today. Over the past 100 years, over 4000 people and groups have benefited from the dedication and generosity of the area women who joined to serve their community as the GFWC Woman’s Club of Lake Wales
