Help Karen Fight Cancer

Karen Petrosyan, twenty-one years old, was a soldier in the 44-day Artsakh war. He fought beside his father and brother who had also served in the 2016 April war. Prior to the war, Karen and his family lived in the Ughtasar community of the Askeran region of Artsakh. Unfortunately, today, the region is under the control of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Due to these circumstances, Karen and his family were forced to abandon the home they had built and relocate. 

 

During his service, Karen began to develop irregular symptoms. These symptoms included unusual headaches, fatigue, leg pain, etc. After his service, Karen underwent a full examination in Armenia, where he was diagnosed with acute leukemia. The diagnosis led to numerous tests and two rounds of chemotherapy. As a result of the ongoing treatment Karen's cancer is in remission. Karen will continue to receive one more round of chemotherapy. After this chemotherapy he will need an allogeneic bone marrow transplant. As of July, allogeneic transplantations are being performed at the RH Yolyan Hematology Center in Yerevan (where Karen is currently being treated) but unfortunately Karen is not eligible as they only perform these operations for benign diagnosis. As such, Karen’s transplant will need to be performed in at the Pavlov First State Medical University of St. Petersburg and the cost of the operation is going to be $70,000.

 

Karen's brother is a match for the transplant. He is able and willing to donate. However, Karen’s family does not have the means to fund the procedure. The loss of their home in Artsakh has severely hindered their financial capabilities. All donations made will be collected and directly sent to the hospital for the aforementioned procedure. We are asking for all of our friends, family, and donors to help save Karen's life.
