Ghost Ship Fire Memorial Concert

Donation protected
Please HELP US fund a Memorial Concert to honor the 36 lives lost in the Oakland Ghost Ship fire on December 2, 2016. Voices of Silicon Valley, Bay Area’s innovative vocal group, are organizing a Memorial Concert on the eve of the third anniversary (Sunday December 1, 2019) of this tragic Oakland fire to celebrate those lives who dedicated themselves to the arts: musicians, artists, poets, producers, filmmakers, and scientists. They are gone, but never forgotten. Help us make this concert a reality as we help to bring together musicians and friends who knew the victims of the Ghost Ship Fire, as well as to help heal our community that witnessed this perilous disaster. We believe that music, like no other, can heal and bring us all together.

The Memorial concert will take place on Sunday December 1, 2019 at 4pm at Lake Merritt United Methodist Church, 1330 Lakeshore Ave., Oakland, CA 94606

We need funding to assemble the necessary musicians and technical crew to put together this timely memorial concert that is greatly needed for Bay Area’s artistic community, and to have proper publicity for this event. We have already secured the concert venue and plan to record and post this event to make it available for those who cannot attend the concert. Please consider making a donation to this creative endeavor.

As a result of the Ghost Ship fire tragedy, local governments issued new regulations requiring artists and musicians to move out of wear houses, now considered unsafe. For many artists, that was the only living and working space they could afford.

Amongst the lost lives in the Ghost Ship were:

A visual artist from Berkeley, who toured with musical acts around the world
A poet and barista who recently moved from southern California to Oakland
A local sound engineer who was well known in the underground arts scene
A celebrated film-maker and freelance producer at KQED, the northern California public media network
A highly respected local electronic musician, known for his industrial techno sets.

For more information, please contact us at [email redacted] and help us put this amazing event together! We also welcome creative contributions in the form of either performance or visual arts: musicians, poets, music engineer/s.
