Gia's Return to College Fund

Donation protected
Gia Love is a trans woman of color from New York City. She is an active member of the House and Ballroom community with specific notoriety in the Kiki scene. Gia was a principle subject in the Teddy Award-winning documentary Kiki. Gia’s work in the Kiki ballroom community has extended from community activism to providing HIV and STI prevention services for at-risk LGBTQ youth. Gia lives her life as a courageous  black woman of trans experience who overcame adversity by living in her truth unapologetically and authentically. Gia is now a Program Coordinator at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health in the Spatial Epidemiology Lab. She is determined to bring the voice and experience of a black trans woman to research by leaning on her personal and professional experiences to guide her practice.

Gia Love is raising funds to support her efforts in finishing her bachelor's degree. Gia was enrolled in City College during the early days of her gender transition. Due to the many acts of transphobia and the mounting social issues  she experienced as a result of her transition, she was forced stop going to school in order to attend to her mental health.

Gia took a 5+ year break from school. She has decided to go to community college to transition her into the big league of a four year institution. Gia will have a lot of expenses to handle because of her academic standing at her last institution, which will disqualify her from receiving financial aid until she gets in good academic standing.

Gia will be enrolling at BMCC full-time  while continuing her work at Columbia's Mailman School of Public Heath full-time. She is determined to finish what she has started and be a beacon of hope for black trans women who want to pursue higher education . It is important that Gia calls on the community help to support her journey. She needs our help!
