Support the Gichigaming Water Walk

Donation protected
On Saturday, September 14th, local Tribal Nations in collaboration with ProtectThePorkies campaign are holding the Gichigaming Water Walk, in response to proposals for new metallic sulfide mines in the Lake Superior watershed, specifically the Copperwood project, which would be the closest metallic sulfide mine to Lake Superiorin history. The Water Walk is a ceremony to honor our connection to the Earth, the Elements, and all of the diverse Lifeforms whose well-being is intertwined with our own. Secondarily, we hope the Walk serves as a reminder to media, business leaders, politicians, and the society at large that the oft-cited claim "mining is our heritage" fails to account for the fact that this area has been inhabited for tens of thousands of years by cultures who relate to the natural world on a level far deeper than mere profit-driven extraction, and so too might our own.

All are invited to attend and participate. For full details, visit the Event Page or follow along on Facebook.

Funds are needed for travel expenses and lodging for Walk Leaders and Tribal Elders, providing lunches to participants, the printing of t-shirts, the subsidizing of the Feast, and more. Any remaining funds will be used to further the mission of the ProtectThePorkies campaign.
