GiGi’s surgery fund

Hey Everyone, for those that don’t know me my name is Dan Zazitski. My fiance and I are proud fur parents of 4 dogs and 2 cats our dogs are Barley, Boba, Jade and our newest addition GiGi. GiGi is a pit mix that we adopted from the woods. We first saw her about 5 miles from our home while driving into town and we tried to call her to the truck but she ran off into the woods. Two weeks later the same dog showed up on gate camera in the middle of the night. About a week after that we saw her on the road just down from our home. After about twenty minutes of coaxing I was able to gain her trust enough to scoop her up and put her in the truck. She was terrified of the truck and being in it. We got her home and spent the next two hours bathing her, picking ticks off and cleaning some wounds she had. The next few weeks we focused on getting some food in her and getting some weight back on her. She was nothing but skin and bones. We eventually got some weight gain and she regularly eats now. Since then she has become part of our family. GiGi is always happy, always playful and talkative with us and her brothers and sister. We made an appointment to have her spayed, chipped and vaccinated. After we dropped her off the day of her appointment the snip clinic called and asked us to come back asap and they’d tell us why when we got there. GiGi was not able to fully undergo anesthesia because of a breathing issue. When they turned her on her back she couldn’t breathe and had to be put on oxygen to stabilize her. She was chipped but not vaccinated or spayed that day. We were instructed to take her to a full service clinic to see about her breathing. We did take her to our regular vet and they did scans, what they discovered was even more heartbreaking to learn about GiGis past, the vet told us that she at some point in her life had suffered either being hit by a car or being thrown from a moving vehicle. They informed us that GiGi has a tear in her diaphragm and a portion of her intestines are in her chest cavity against her lung. They referred us to a veterinary surgeon in Savannah for a consultation. We took her in and they had a look at GiGi The surgeon told us that she “might” be ok but one day at any time she could sustain a tear and die within hours unexpectedly and we needed to have the surgery performed as quickly as possible. This is where the numbers came into play. We have given a quote of $4800-$10200 for the surgery. The low end is based on best case scenario the high end is the worst once the begin the surgery they will know more. Based on the extent of adhesion of her intestines to the walls of the chest cavity and / or her lungs and other organs. We have to come up with roughly $7500 for them to schedule the surgery and based on best case worst case either get refunded the balance or owe the balance on the worst case end, which would be before she can come home. I’ve already taken advantage of some financial options that aren’t a comfortable situation and thus we currently have $3300 set aside now. We are going to save as much as we can ourselves but we are worried about the “what if” in the meantime . We are working on getting another referral for a second opinion at UGA. This is extremely humbling for me to even make a go fund me but we Love our GiGi and we’re going to do whatever it takes to get her cared for. If anyone can help with anything we would greatly appreciate it. If we have anything left over after GiGi’s care we will donate the remained to Fixing the Boro in Statesboro Georgia. GiGi is family and we don’t give up on family, thank you for your consideration.
