Gilbertsville FD 111 Michael Bynum

When you see news of a firefighter injured in the line of duty you think to yourself “that could never happen to our department”. We at Gilbertsville Fire had the call you never want to hear of a firefighter being injured after arriving on scene of a call. Michael Bynum (better known as squirrel) was struck by a vehicle while assisting a motorist who was involved in a wreck in the west bound lanes of the interstate 24 bridge from Livingston county into Marshall. He is a great man as well as a new father. Michael has been a firefighter with us since 2006 and climbed the ranks from firefighter to Safety Officer all of the way up to First Lieutenant. Michael is the father of a beautiful girl, wonderful son to his parents who are at his side and a loving significant other to a caring woman who is also at his side. All funds will go to the family to help with any expenses needed while they are out of town with him at the hospital as well as in the months to come, this will not be used for medical bills.
