Dear Friends and Neighbor’s,
Five years ago, the Gilmanton Fireman’s Association asked for your financial support for our UTV fundraising campaign. Through your generosity, our goal was accomplished and in 2017, we placed a Honda Pioneer 1000-5 UTV into service. The unit is equipped to respond to off-road incidents throughout the year.
During the winter, the unit is equipped with a track system that allows for over the snow operation and the tracks are removed after mud season and wheels are placed back on for the balance of the season.
Over the course of the last few years, we have determined that we are missing an important piece of equipment that will assist in our forestry firefighting operations. To that end, the Gilmanton Fireman’s Association is mounting a fundraising campaign to generate the necessary funding to purchase a forestry skid unit which includes a water tank, fire pump and hose reel which drops into the rear compartment of our UTV. The addition of this unit to our UTV will allow us greater access to fighting forestry fires in hard to reach off road locations. This unit is portable and will be removed on a seasonal basis, the portability of the unit also allows it to be removed rapidly in the event that the mission of the UTV changes to a medical evacuation.
Just recently we experienced a 9.5 acre forestry incident where the need for such a piece of equipment became more apparent. With difficult access and limited manpower, having the ability to deploy this kind of asset quickly has a tremendous bearing on the successful outcome of an incident and will serve the Town for the foreseeable future. We look forward to partnering with you as we work to achieve our goal.
The projected cost of our project is $6,000.00. The community has always been most supportive of your Fire Department and we appreciate the support you have provided us over the years by endorsing our annual budget as well as supporting our Association in our previous fund raising campaigns.
