Help Gina get through her 3rd battle with cancer
Donation protected
Six years ago, Gina was diagnosed with cervical cancer while 12 weeks pregnant. After being life flighted to Seattle in septic shock at 16 weeks pregnant, her OB sat her down and warned her about the risks of having a premie and told her that she needed to wait until 24 weeks to have a C section and a hysterectomy. But that same day, her OB couldn’t find a heartbeat for their baby. Gina knew in that moment they had lost their baby. She proceeded to have treatment and a hysterectomy. She was moving on with her life and the next year Gina and Dan welcomed Oliver. Oliver is the best little guy around.
In the summer of 2020, cancer was back. Gina never thought she would be back having chemo again. This cocktail of chemo and radiation was rough. Her hair fell out, she was tired, but she is a warrior and a survivor. It took longer to recover this time. Once she was done with treatment, the Gossetts moved across the country to Maryland in early 2021. A few months later Gina was in a constant pain and progressively lost feeling in her right foot up to her thigh. Radiation had critically damaged her nerves, causing her muscles in her right leg to atrophy. The doctors determined the pain and damage was due to radiation plexopathy. By then, Gina had lost the use of most of her right leg and foot. As Gina said, ‘It’s like having a dead fish attached to your foot.’ Did that stop Gina? Nope! She has learned to drive with her left leg, learned to walk with a brace and cane, worked tirelessly to figure out how to manage her pain and then decided to rock climb up a mountain. Gina is a badass, mountain climbing, ninja. Well, maybe not a ninja, but she is a badass.
In April 2023, Gina found out she has cancer for a third time. This time the cancer is in both her lungs. The treatment will be the same as before: carbo/taxol/Avastin and they added in Keytruda. She had her first treatment already and is feeling okay. But as the treatments progress, similar symptoms are likely to occur. She will be exhausted, unable to work, and will lose her hair again.
As always, Gina is staying positive, but financially she could use help with a number of items. She could use help to get a wig or stylish head covering for summer in DC, therapy for Oliver and the entire family, and yoga/treatment for her to help with nausea and bone pain. Also, just daily needs as treatment goes on … food delivery, parking at the hospital, uncovered costs and hopefully a few extras so she can enjoy time with her family and friends.
