Gina's trip to Singapore with Metastatic Lung cancer
Donation protected
My name's Matt and around mid 2024, mum Gina, was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. After a pause to take this all in, figure out a treatment plan and make some arrangements, mum's thoughts shifted to ticking off a few things from her bucket list.
For 2 years now, I've been growing my beard and shaving it off. I've been doing an annual fund raiser for a cause that has a close connection to me and my community. This all started when my daughter suggested I shave my beard and I decided if it was coming off, there should be a cause. Both my daughter and I spent a considerable amount of time in the Royal Children's Hospital, in Melbourne, while growing up. The second shave, almost 12 months later helped a co-worker raise funds for a friend who's daughter was born with a rare condition.
This year, the cause I've decided to raise funds for is very important to me. It's mum's wish to travel to Singapore including a leg of that trip cruising and flying home to Queensland.
Normally, there's a date set for me to shave my beard, and off it comes. This occasion, I've decided to set a target. Then and only then, will the beard come off and almost immediately, if cleared by her doctors, mum will book her holiday and set sail for Singapore.
Travelling with lung cancer comes with hurdles and isn't impossible by any far stretch of the imagination. There's travel insurance, travel windows between treatments and also needing to feel somewhat healthy enough to enjoy the trip.
With all of that in mind, last minute arrangements are almost guaranteed and anyone who's booked a trip knows, last minute generally means there are less bargains available.
So please dig deep and help mum make a wish.
