Help Girl Power Foundation Uganda raise $11,000 to keep girls in school and help them achieve their educational goals.
Girl Power Foundation Uganda (GPFU) is a non-profit organization based in the Kanungu District of South Western Uganda. The organization focuses on helping girls achieve their educational potential, make informed decisions about their future, and gain employment opportunities. GPFU’s main program, Go Girls Mentorship, focuses on providing girls between the ages of 10 and 18 years old with life skills training and mentorship. The program’s goals are to increase school retention and teach girls their individual power, allowing them to gain personal agency.
Girl Power Foundation was founded to address a weakened sense of self-worth among young girls in the community it serves. Many young girls struggle with self-esteem and often underestimate their potential due to social stereotypes which depict girls as less capable than boys. Early pregnancies and marriages contribute to the problem as many young girls question whether they are capable of continuing their schooling or finding employment opportunities outside of homemaking. The Covid-19 pandemic worsened many of these problems as many girls now feel they have fallen behind in their studies too much to return to classes, opting to drop out.
With your support, GPFU aims to address these issues by expanding the Go Girls Mentorship program.
The program’s curriculum includes weekly programming led by teachers focused on building agency through a number of skills, including communication, problem solving, perseverance, and menstrual health management, to name a few. In recruiting students, GPFU will focus on the most vulnerable girls, including those without parents, girls with disabilities, and girls who have been underperforming in school. GPFU intends to target 250 girls between the ages of 10 and 18 from five schools.
The mentorship program will inspire and empower girls to create positive change within themselves and their communities. GPFU believes teaching girls to believe in themselves will create a ripple effect in communities. Teaching new skills and providing positive role models, the Go Girls Mentorship program will help nurture girls' strengths and ambitions. In turn, girls are more likely to stay in school and set out to achieve their dreams.
Join us to empower girls to believe in themselves and set ambitious goals by donating to this campaign and sharing it with others!
