Girls' Voice Amplifier Fund for DIN Malawi
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,
Help Global Health Alliance fundraise for our nonprofit partner, Development Initiative Network (DIN) Malawi, and their initiative aiming to end child marriage and gender-based violence in the Chikwawa district of Malawi!
We are Global Health Alliance at the University of Chicago, a student-run organization that, among other things, works very closely with our global partner organization, DIN Malawi. It's our mission as students to support DIN in every way that we can--academically, through volunteering, financially, and through friendship.
Over the past few months, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to massive school closures in Malawi. In the past, schools have been essential in keeping children and teens busy and reducing rates of child marriages and early pregnancies.
Not only have these school closures caused child marriages to begin rising at an alarming rate, but several days ago, it came to light that an 11 year old girl was defiled in Malawi's N'chalo district, followed by dozens more cases of child rape reported across the country in the following days. This has incited national fury and outrage, as well as the launching of new anti-sexual assault and anti-child marriage initiatives.
In response, DIN Malawi has chosen to launch a new community-wide initiative, Girl's Voice Amplifier, with the goal of ending child marriage and gender-based violence in Malawi's Chikwawa district.
Girls' Voice Amplifier would involve a holistic approach that aims to empower girls at risk for child marriage through information and support networks, as well as working with the girls' teachers and guardians to keep their education accessible and shift community attitudes about child marriage.
In order to launch this new initiative within the next month, DIN Malawi must fundraise its budget of $5,500 in the next few weeks. Please help Global Health Alliance in our mission to raise as much money as possible in the name of the victims and make DIN Malawi's goal a reality.
Thank you!
After you donate, please be sure share this campaign with your families, friends, colleagues, and others!
