Senior Doxie Giuliana Needs Your Help
Hello, my name is Carmen, and I am the proud momma of Giuliana (aka Giulie). Giulie came into my life on June 23rd, 2012, when I rescued her from Houston. She was found on the streets of Houston in the middle of the summer, hairless and exhausted. I adopted her for All Texas Dachshund Rescue, and when we saw each other, it was love at first sight. She jumped into my arms, and everything else was history. That first day, she was happy and felt at home immediately. Giulie is now 13 years old, and she has been my rock throughout all these years. We are a crew, five senior dogs (including Giulie) and me. All of them came into my life for different reasons, but they are an essential part of our little family. I've been involved in animal rescue for about ten years, adopting dogs and helping other dogs get adopted.

As you can see, I have a deep love for dogs. Giulie is my constant companion; out of all of my pups, she is the one that is always by my side. After many life changes, we relocated from Texas, and now we live in Washington, DC.
In March, Giulie started having seizures, and after a late Saturday night visit to the emergency room, we were able to get them under control.
However, last Monday, May 2nd, we had a horrible day. She had three seizures in a row, and I rushed her to the vet again, where she prescribed Phenobarbitol to control her seizures. The vet said to give her the meds and watch her development.
Since Monday, Giulie seems disoriented and is moving slower; as of Friday, she started peeing in her sleep. Now more than ever, we are glued to each other; I don't leave anywhere without her. I help her move around, give her more potty breaks, and make sure she is comfortable. Despite the circumstances, Giulie seems at peace, happy to be by my side, and always happy to eat yummy food and treats.
Giulie's vet suggests that in order to find the cause of her seizures, she needs some major tests with a neurologist, most urgently a spinal tap and an MRI.
I have an appointment with Dr. Jacobson on May 10th, and as of now, the estimate for her medical care will exceed $5,000 (and that is before the actual treatment that will follow the diagnosis).
I have donated to GoFundMes, fundraisers, and rescues in the past, but now I find myself in the position to be writing my own and asking this community for help.
Sadly, I cannot afford the cost of her care, I have four other senior dogs that also need medical care, and the costs are high.
I will truly do anything for my sweet girl. She is so loving and gentle despite her discomfort. She loves to sit next to me when I work. I place a chair next to me with comfy blankets, and that's the place where she is the happiest.
Thank you so much for reading, sharing, and donating if you are able.
Even if you are able to share her story, I would be truly grateful as I love her so much, and I know that she still has a lot of life left in her.
With love and gratitude, Carmen (Giulie’s human)
