Give A Child a Family and Home

UPDATE: In the process of investigating if adoption or foster was right for us, while also helping a child in need, we decided to use all of your donations and much of our own to host as part of Kidsave Summer Miracles program, which allows you the help an orphan from Colombia find their forever family. Camila stayed with us for 5 weeks from July 2-August 8 2022 much like a foreign exchange student visiting another country, but with a deeper purpose of meeting future potential families. As a result of her stay with us, she’s is in the process of being adopted by a family in the USA. We were proud to be a part of her journey to find her forever family and hope to be foster parents in the future once we get certified and our toddler is a bit older; and able to understand and be a part of this process too. OLD POST: We have some very BIG news to share with everyone. The Davenport Family, which includes myself, mydevoted husband (John) and our beautiful son (Rowan), have decided to expand and grow ourwonderful family. We have so much love to give and want nothing more than to open our hearts andwelcome another child into our family. This journey was inspired by my own personal story. When Iwas a child, I didn't have a sense of what it meant to have a stable and loving home until my siblings andI were adopted by my very own grandmother. Since then, I've always wanted to pay it forward and givethat sense of HOME, LOVE, and FAMILY to another beautiful child. I'm also inspired by my husband,John, who has helped many at-risk children get access to medical care as well as an education byincorporating sports while living in Spain many years ago.

You could say the spirit to help others is andwas always present inside the both of us. Now that we have recently bought a home, our goal ofexpanding our future family through adoption is finally possible.If ONLY the road to adoption was so simple! We are learning the hard truth that our journey towardsadoption will be a very EXPENSIVE endeavor. The entire process to adopt can cost a family anywherefrom $25K-$40K, which is well beyond our means to be funded completely on our own. Our goal is to try toraise enough combined funds from now until 2024. As the saying goes, "adoption is a marathon, not asprint".

One might ask, "Why not foster-to-adopt then?". Depending on which city/county you may live in,foster-to-adopt might not be an available option. Unfortunately, in our case it is NOT an availableoption in our own city/county where we live. One of the purposes of foster care is to provide a safe, stable, nurturingenvironment with the potential to reunite the child with their own family or living relative. Givingup a child you have grown to love is one of the hardest things for a parent to experience. We have not closed the door to fostering a child in need in our future, but we have chosen to go down the path of adoption to permanently grow our family. 

As an educator and speech-language pathologist (SP) in both a school and private setting while workingin special education, I have an innate knowledge and desire to help children. My husband, in his line ofwork, has an inherent desire to protect others and sees the consequences that result when childrendon't get the help they need.

Everyone's journey in life is different, and I thank god every day to be given the opportunity to take thisone on together with my husband and son. I can't wait for my son to meet his soon to be sister orbrother. In order to accomplish our goal, we have been told this journey will need to be comprised of1/3 loans, 1/3 grants, and 1/3 fundraising. We have faith in God to lead us successfully on thiswonderful journey, but we also want our story to be shared with you.
