Karen has been an important part of the Concord/Kannapolis running community for eight years. If you have attended an evening running club or local race, then you’ve no doubt seen or met her. She’s encouraging, welcoming, and a loyal friend.
Recently, while running in Kannapolis, Karen fell, resulting in a severely fractured wrist. After an intensive surgery involving several steel plates and screws, Karen was left with a mountain of medical costs. Because Karen was uninsured at the time of her injury, she has been left to pay these bills on her own.
As a community of runners and, more importantly, a community of friends, we want to step up and help out, knowing that she would be the first to do the same for any of us. Recovery from an injury like this is hard enough, but the impact of the financial injury it has caused can make matters far worse.
In the interest of helping Karen face the challenges ahead, we’re planning a few fun fundraisers. First, a silent auction at Cabarrus Brewing on January 18th, followed by a fun run at Streakers in downtown Concord on February 12th (Narmil’s famous handmade spring rolls will be available for purchase).
In the coming days, we will announce new details surrounding these fundraising events. To help bolster any potential support, we have also created this GoFundMe. Proceeds will help address Karen’s medical expenses and hopefully provide Karen with peace of mind during her recovery. Karen’s costs far exceed the goal set on this page, but we are confident that we can accomplish this goal and more if we come together as a group. Let’s help Karen finish this race strong!
Our first fundraiser is coming up, a silent auction at Cabarrus Brewery January 18th at 6:30. Information can be found here. https://fb.me/e/2bQx7KGBc
