About Us:
My name is Mohammed Abutabikh, and I am from Gaza. I have been living in Gaza my whole life but, honestly, I can barely remember the details of my life before October 2023. So much has changed, and so much has been lost. We know that any moment could be our last, and we humbly need your help to evacuate Gaza and start over.

My wife Shimaa, is 25 years old and is on her way to becoming a successful businesswoman. We designed and built our house together, inch by inch. We had a life and, two sons. Our sons, Ahmed 2.5 years old, and Yousef 8 months, are the light of our lives, and we had so many dreams for our future together.

and my extended family consists of 13 members, including 3 children, 4 women, and 2 elderly people (my parents) who unfortunately have diabetes. Each member of our family has achieved commendable academic success and aspires to pursue promising professional paths. I hold a Master's degree in Software Engineering. Our family includes a civil engineer, a dentist, a medical laboratory scientist with a Master's in Water and Environmental Sciences, a software engineer, and our younger members are currently in school. Sadly, my brother and I lost our jobs due to the conflict, adding to the weight of our already heavy burden.

Honestly, we are not okay. We can clearly say that our dream for our family now is totally different than our dreams the day before this crisis began. What we want is peace. We dream of living in a safe place where we can work and our children live in a peaceful environment where there is no violence at all, and where there are no conflicts between any other party. This is the only dream we can hope for.

Impact of the War on Our Family:
Our lives were thrown into turmoil amidst a devastating conflict labeled as Israeli aggression. On October 9th, under duress from occupying forces, we were forced to abandon our home with only the clothes on our backs. Our journey took us from one temporary residence to another every two days, spanning from northern Gaza to Tal al-Hawa, then to central Gaza in al-Nuseirat, then Deir al-Balah further south to Al-Mawasi Khan Yunis, and eventually settling in the tents of Tal as-Sultan in Rafah city.
We have been living in the tents for 5 months, and every day that goes by is harder than the day before. We worry constantly about our safety and basic needs of food, wa5ter, and electricity. We haven’t eaten a single fruit or vegetable in months, and we fear running out of food altogether. My sons are sick from the polluted drinking water. Nowhere is safe in Gaza. We lost friends and family and we hear bombings all around us. During the pause in fighting, we went outside and saw the devastation all around us. When I go out to the street, I feel I am in an apocalypse movie. Everything is destroyed.

We lost all our life’s savings and assets in this brutal war. Before the war, we had spent over $50,000 to build our dream home together, and $16,000 on our car. Now, our dream home is unlivable. The home is completely burnt and our building (spanning four floors) is severely damaged; our memories, appliances, equipment, clothes, and everything we had are either stolen or damaged. Our car is partial destroyed due to an airstrike in the neighborhood. Almost everything we own and consider as a main asset for our family is lost. In our community, there has been so much loss.

Life within these makeshift tents is intolerable, unfit even for animals. Enduring constant exposure to rain and bone-chilling cold has become our harsh reality. The plight of my children—Ahmad (2.5 years old) and Yousef (6 months old)—is heartbreaking. Ahmad battles illness due to the dire living conditions, Yousef is almost 8 months old and he has spent more than half his life living in conflict-ridden conditions, and my brother's daughter, Lama (1 year old), faces an uncertain future without access to proper nutrition, healthcare, we’re not able to provide enough milk, diapers, medication, and vaccinations that must have. We believe that our children should be living in a safe place with all their needs fulfilled.

We pray that we can leave and start our lives over and rebuild our dreams again.

How Your Fund Will Help Us Start Over
We seek your support to rebuild our lives. The funds will help us start over:
  • We plan to evacuate and start our lives over in Europe, where we were granted visitor visas a few months ago. Leaving Gaza requires a lot of money, including fees to cross to Egypt ($5,500 per person and constantly changing) in addition to paperwork, passport renewal, flight tickets, accommodation, and transportation. Once we get to Egypt, we need to pay for essential expenses such as renting a home, furniture, clothes, milk, diapers, vaccinations and groceries. Your support will help us to pay these expenses, evacuate Gaza, and restart our lives.
  • At the same time, we know that no one can predict the situation in Gaza. If we are unable to evacuate, whether because of funds, danger of travel, or change in access, we will use the funds raised to meet our emergency needs here in Gaza, and we will do our best to recover and rebuild a life for a family here in these difficult circumstances.

Abdullah has launched this fundraiser on my behalf, as he is based in Canada and able to access this platform. he will transfer the funds to me, so I can use for these purposes listed above. To note, there is a small, required GoFundMe fee applied to online donations (2.9% + $0.30 per donation).

You may ask yourself and be surprised that this is a large amount of $5,000 per person to go out. You may think that it is a fantasy, but unfortunately no, this is the truth. An Egyptian company is charging Palestinians $5,000 per person to flee Gaza and has increased its prices 14-fold since the war began, and there is no other way, exit only through the Egyptian border.

This is a report prepared by Sky News about The price of freedom: The company making millions from Gaza's misery.

We thank you for your kind and generous help. In these terrible times, we are grateful for our friends and community and your support. Your support gives us strength, and, with your help, we will rebuild our lives again.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Mohammed Abutabikh
